Week 6 - Health and Fitness Challenge - Power through Xmas

We have finally reached week 6 of our Pink Lady® Apples Health and Fitness Challenge. For the past 6 weeks we have followed the progress and celebrated the achievements of our inspirational challenge winner Rebecca Clark. Rebecca entered this challenge to feel better about herself and get healthy and fit for her Grandkids. She received a FitbitFlex2, a Pink Lady® apples care pack each week and expert instruction from Raechelle Veale, our Pink Lady® Apples Health and Fitness Ambassador, personal trainer and professional athlete. We also put together a supporters group to go through the challenge with her, consisting of myself, my daughter Rose and Raechelle's sister Dannika.

Raechelle set us a goal of 10,000 steps per day and 2-3 workouts a week based on the functional strength training that she teaches at Ludus Magnus North Shore. We set up a group on Fitbit to cheer each other on.

Each week Bex smashed her walking goals, challenging herself to go a little bit further each day. She tried a few different fitness classes at the gym to find activities that she found fun and to give a bit of variety. At the end of 6 weeks she is feeling stronger and more motivated than ever. In total Bex has lost over 6kgs and has reduced by at least a dress size. Check out what she says about the program in her recap video here.

Raechelle gave us tips every week to help our journey towards a change in lifestyle. The biggest point she makes is that that this is a lifestyle change, not a diet or temporary fix. Check out her recommended nutrition plan. Her final tips to get us through the holiday season are here.

What we have learnt over this time is that keeping track of your activity using technology like a Fitbit is really important to accurately gauge what you are achieving. Recording your food and drink every day and measuring portions really helps change your mindset about what food does to your body and how much we really need.  Since giving up sugar and refined carbs we have all felt so much better, less bloated, more energy and have found other benefits like clearer skin and healthy hair.

Thanks to everyone who has been so supportive along this journey for Bex. It really does help having a team of people cheering you on when embarking upon a transformation.

We have had requests to run this program in other parts of the country so over the summer while we regroup and prepare for the next Pink Lady® apple season we will be planning how we can roll this out nationwide. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for full details.

In the meantime have a fantastic summer, enjoy the fresh whole foods available over this season and remember if you do get off track and overindulge just get back on it the next day and keep going. It takes 21 days to build a habit and only 7 days to break it. Power through Xmas and here's to a healthful year ahead in 2018.
